Mentoring workshop
1st Mentoring workshop
On February 14, 2018, the First PhD Mentoring Workshop was organized with the aim of improving doctoral training and raising awareness of the importance of mentoring in doctoral training. The workshop was organized by the Commission for the Acquisition of Doctorates in Science in cooperation with the Office for Science and International Cooperation and the Office for the Improvement and Quality Assurance of Higher Education. Given that mentoring work is complex and the quality of mentoring depends not only on the mentor, but also on the relationship between mentor and doctoral student, it is important that mentors continuously prepare for it by renewing their knowledge and skills by participating in mentoring workshops. This was an introductory workshop, the first in a series to improve the mentors' competencies, and at the same time, their attendance is one of the conditions for obtaining the same. The workshop was intended for all interested teachers, as well as those who took on mentoring for the first time in the previous academic year, and was led by Tonči Rezić, Associate Professor, PhD -accredited educator mentor from the Faculty of Food and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb.
2nd Mentoring workshop
On December 10, 2018, the second mentoring workshop entitled "How to be a successful mentor?" was held at the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek, organized by the Commission for the Acquisition of Doctorates and the Office for Science and International Cooperation. The workshop was led by the accredited mentor educator Tonči Rezić, Associate Professor, PhD from the Faculty of Food and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb.
Mentors at the post-graduate university (doctoral) study "Agricultural Sciences" worked in groups and gave possible solutions to the difficulties that are most often encountered in practice. They considered how to write a successful application for a doctoral dissertation topic and, giving examples from practice, tried to conclude what a dream mentor should be like. Also, interviews were conducted in pairs related to the mentor's and doctoral student's expectations, as well as a discussion about the mentor's desirable and undesirable qualities. At the conclusion of the workshop, a discussion was held on the topic "What after the doctorate?" The workshop was attended by twenty mentors who showed great interest in the presented topics.
