Symposium of Agronomists

The Symposium of Agronomists is the largest scientific and professional gathering with the longest history. The first conference was held at the Higher Agricultural School in Vinkovci in 1964 together with the Corn Field Day, when about 250 agronomists participated, and the first chairman of the Organizing Committee was Josip Gotlin, AssociateFull Professor, PhD. Later, the symposium changed its name and venue, so the host cities were Dubrovnik, Stubičke Toplice and Pula, and since 1998, the permanent venue has been the Grand Hotel Adriatic in Opatija. At the initiative of our Faculty, in 2006, the symposium became an international one, when, in addition to the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek, the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb and other co-organizers from the Republic of Croatia, an international association (Balkan Environmental Association) joined the organization. By raising the Symposium to the international level, scientists, especially agricultural producers, got the opportunity to familiarize themselves not only with the results of research in Croatia, but also with the results of world scientists and with the possibilities of solving problems in complex agricultural production on a global level. At the same time, with the arrival of a larger number of foreign scientists, international cooperation and contacts increased, and the Symposium became a place for negotiations and proposals for new scientific projects. Furthermore, during the work of the Symposium, cooperation agreements were signed with universities from abroad (eg Iowa State University, USA). Thus, the Symposium contributed, and will surely contribute even more in the future, to the internationalization of our Faculty and its better positioning at the world level.

The papers presented at the symposium were published in the magazines "Agroinovacije" and "Poljoprivredne aktualnosti", then from 1995 to 2001 only abstracts were published, from 2003 to 2006 short reports, and from 2007 a collection of complete papers and a collection of abstracts, depending on the author's wish. In 2009, the digital publication of proceedings and summaries on a USB stick for all participants of the symposium was switched over, and only a small number of proceedings were printed for archiving and distribution to libraries throughout Croatia. In 2010, the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek, when the Faculty celebrated its 50th anniversary, organized the 45th Croatian and 5th International Symposium of Agronomists, in which over 450 scientists from 22 countries participated and 396 papers were presented. In 2013 and 2014, the Agronomist Symposium organized by our Faculty was held in Dubrovnik, which was a new breakthrough in the organization of this gathering. During the opening of the Symposium, on February 18, 2013, a protocol was solemnly signed on the establishment of a branch (Liason Office) of the international scientific association Balkan Environmental Association (B.EN.A), which started operating at the Faculty. In February 2015, the jubilee 50th Croatian and 10th international symposiums were held, where the following Faculty scientists were recognized for their significant contribution to the work of the Symposium of Agronomists: Zvonko Antunović, Milutin Bede, Tihomir Florijančić, Vlado Guberac, Vlado Kovačević, Andrija Kristek , Zdenko Lončarić, Sonja Marić, Anđelko Opačak, Nada Parađiković, Domagoj Rastija, Tihana Sudarić and Krunoslav Zmaić.

Animal Science Days

The Institute for Zootechnics and later the Institute for Special Zootechnics was the founder and co-organizer of the international symposium "Animal science days". The symposium was held for the first time in 1993 in Kapošvar, Hungary. In addition to the Faculty, the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Zagreb, the Faculty of Animal Sciences of the University of Kapošvar in Hungary and the Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia were involved in the organization, so the symposium functioned organizationally as a trilateral, i.e. each year the organizer was one of three countries. Later they joined: University of Padova, Italy; University of Natural Resources and Life Science, Vienna, Austria; and Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra. The faculty was the main organizer of the symposium in 1994, 2000, 2007 and 2015, and the presidents of the organizing committee were Antun Petričević (1994), Gordana Kralik (2000 and 2007) and Goran Kušec (2015). Accepted papers are printed in the journal of the organizing faculty: Poljopridrava (publisher of the Faculty of Agriculture in Osijek); Agricultural Scientific Review (published by the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb); Acta Agriculturae Slovenica (published by the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia); Acta Agraria Kaposvariensis (Faculty of Animal Science, Kaposvár University, Hungary) and Italian Journal of Animal Science (Department of Animal Science, University of Padova, Italy).

Krmiva (Forages)

The Krmiva International Conference has been held consecutively for 26 years with topics in the field of feeding domestic animals and technology for the production of feed mixtures. The consultation is organized by Krmiva d.o.o. Zagreb and the European Association of Agronomy Engineers (EurAgEng) in cooperation with the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb and the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences, Osijek, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek.

With its participation, Krmiv Consulting supports a large number of higher education institutions and scientific institutions from European countries (Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, etc.).

Symposium of digital technologies in agriculture

The unstoppable progress of technology, and therefore digitalization, penetrates into every pore of modern society, so it has not bypassed even the agronomic profession. Digitization of agriculture brings new challenges but also new opportunities for productivity growth and development. The Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek, in cooperation with other institutions of the Republic of Croatia and abroad, recognized the need and took the initiative in organizing the 1st International Symposium of Digital Technologies in Agriculture (ISDTA) in 2022 with a focus on precision agriculture and educating agronomists about the possibilities offered by digitization. . As part of the symposium, the 1st workshop on "Digital agriculture in rural areas" (DIGITAGRA) was held. The symposium should encourage the gathering and networking of scientists and experts from the country and abroad in order to exchange and spread knowledge, experiences, ideas and results in all fields related to digital technologies in agriculture. Furthermore, the goal is to warn the public about the extremely important role of agronomists in all processes of digitalization of agriculture, and in this way to protect the agronomic profession and place it in the role of the main creator of digitalization of the oldest human activity, i.e. agriculture.

The chairman of the Organizing Committee is prof. Ph.D. Krunoslav Zmaić, and the president of the Scientific Committee prof. Ph.D. Zdenko Lončarić. The sponsors of the meeting are the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia, the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia and the international scientific association Balkan Environmental Association (B.EN.A).
