Studies

The Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences in Osijek created and has been conducting postgraduate studies in Agricultural Sciences for many years. The institutes of the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek have developed activities within the framework of general and narrowly specialized agricultural sciences, and by unifying the initiatives, achievements and special features of the activities of their institutes, the aforementioned postgraduate university study of Agricultural Sciences was created. Including the studies above in the European system of higher education contributed to the aforementioned, and in accordance with the needs of national, strategic priorities based on knowledge in agriculture. The concept of a postgraduate university study in Agricultural Sciences with eight majors (Agroeconomics, Agrochemistry, Animal nutrition and feed technology, Hunting and canine science, Plant breeding, and seed production, Animal husbandry, Technical systems in agriculture, Plant protection) represents the highest level of science integration at the Faculty of Agriculture in Osijek and the most significant contribution in the research-education sphere of scientific activity.

The reasons for starting a postgraduate university study are to provide the opportunity for graduates of agricultural engineers, i.e. masters of agriculture, to acquire focused scientific knowledge in the field of agriculture and, with the help of the latest scientific knowledge and technologies, to personally contribute to the development of science in the field of agriculture following national research priorities and needs in the public and private sector.

The postgraduate university study of Agricultural Science is based on the latest world scientific knowledge and as such is stimulating for the development of new knowledge, skills, and technologies necessary for the development of a knowledge-based society, both in national and international priorities. The study is based on scientific activities within scientific projects, and the research activity is increasing continuously. Research projects are the basis of collaboration between faculty departments, and cooperation with other faculties and scientific institutes. Joint research is foreseen in the study concept itself, which includes eight courses. Namely, the need to explain a problem arises from a higher level of integration of science, and explanations imply an understanding of processes and mechanisms at a lower level of integration of science, i.e. at the level of branches of agriculture that are included in the fields of study: agrochemistry, seed production, genetics and breeding of plants, animals and microorganisms, herbalism, phytomedicine, animal husbandry, animal nutrition, hunting, agricultural technique, and technology.

The study is up to date in terms of the conception and structure of the program and the method of implementation, comparable to similar studies at other European higher education institutions, especially from the countries of the European Union.
